Giethoorn is a beautiful and serene village in the Dutch province Overrijsel, and is also known as 'Venice of the Netherlands' or 'Little Venice'. The village is part of national park 'Weerribben-Wieden' and is only accessible by electric boat, since there are no cars or roads. You can explore the village by boat over the many canals or go by foot over the loveley wooden bridges of which there are more than 150 in Giethoorn.
Peat unearthing in the 18th century formed the many lakes in this area. After sailing or wandering through the village you can visit the Museum of Giethoorn “'t Olde Maat Uus' to learn more about the history.
